I think you've kinda got it wrong about the current ccp & chinese elites: Xi's ccp believes in noblesse oblige, and I am pretty sure they are cleaning up the carpetbaggers and scammers if they don't play ball by the commie rules (help the nation/people with your wealth).
here we used to believe in that duty, but then we called them robber barons after they donated a ton of money to found perpetual funding for libraries and universities, and now i think they don't really care bout the poors anymore unless the poors make them money or power.
i didn't see the "i am science, why would he question science" vid, but it sounded like it gave a bad impression to people who don't trust him and neutral to the true believers.
