It is interesting how the rich got much richer during the pandemic. I practice primarily consumer bankruptcy law, representing mainly debtors, and case filings over the past year have dropped to their lowest level in the past nearly 40 years (on a month-to-month comparison, starting in March/April of 2020, consumer filings were down nearly 50% compared to the same month in 2019).
Landlords still have mortgages to pay; forbearance doesn't last forever; pandemic unemployment assistance will run out eventually. Things are ok for now, but eventually the dominos are going to start falling, and things are going to get ugly. Everyone in the bankruptcy world is holding out for a tsunami of personal filings once the various relief programs run out.
I believe business filings over the last year have been higher than normal. Probably also due to pandemic interference (restaurant closings, etc). I know that Remington's bankruptcy was due in part to the forced closure of its plant in Ilion, NY (as well as unresolved issues from its prior bankruptcy from a couple years ago).
I heard a theory of human nature and when we hear someone who says things or holds wrong beliefs. That person will think they are 1. Ignorant. 2. Stupid. 3. Evil.
1. Ignorant. The wrong person has not heard the truth and will need the proper education to correct the wrongness. Solution is a conversation.
2. Stupid. The wrong person doesn't have the cognitive ability to understand the truth. A conversation will help, but it may be closer to a break wall.
3. Evil. The wrong person knows the truth and is not stupid. They have inner narrative and other ends to get to. They are most likely gaslighting people with their laws. There is no solution to them. No matter of conversation will solve the mindset of people.
Saying this, I wonder what those players you talked about fit into. Are they ignorant, stupid, or just plain evil.
Enjoyed the podcast. Surprised you don't have the grizzled, rocky, chain-smoker voice your headshot would suggest Nick, but it was delightful listening to you and SWM.
Speaking of other podcasts, have you guys listened to the No Agenda show? I bring it up because 1) it is The Best Podcast in the Universe and 2) because it is also not monetized - it is completely funded by donations. Definately worth looking into IMHO.

Thanks Single White Medusa for sharing your concerns about the "vaccine." I know some elderly people who are being pressured by their children to get the shot, using the line, "You can't come see the grandkids unless you get the shot." Very sad. Especially since this elderly couple had also said they don't feel comfortable taking the shot. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I hope it helps someone to make the best decision!
