Being a recovering Advertising Agency owner/exec and having many connections into Publicis (including hiring a kid out of college that has become a C level exec at Publicis) I can tell you they are hired guns just like attorneys so I would not go too far down the conspiracy path. These are extremely smart people whose job is to make people believe something other than the truth - that is what they do. With AI and machine learning they have honed their craft to a level that most cannot fathom. You are profiled and manipulated by sequences of text, images, sounds, smells, and events to a level that even the most independent minded person is influenced a hundred times a day. The threat is the people that hire them to influence.
...and I love blockchain but that is not going to save anyone until the people are willing to break the rules to use blockchain. At this stage it is probably too late for decentralized blockchain to help in any meaningful way.
