The reason they're (still) trying to sanitize the Dover case is that they desperately do not want the concept that the v is a poison death shot to gain any more traction than it already has in the popular mind. They know where that ends: them, doing the funky monkey at the end of piece of rope.
Will be interesting to see if Musk reveals the inner workings of bans and shadow bans as well as all the algos and code. Be great to see records of communications and perhaps hear from people who now feel comfortable speaking out against the former leadership.
Shadowbanning is the tech version of some disgruntled fast food worker spitting in your food. Big tech censorship is when the manager does it too, and trains all the new hires to be equally contemptuous of the customers who pay their wages.
I have no plans to go back Twitter and I don't trust that it will remain free, plus I like some of the other platforms, there is less hype and crap. You can actually talk and enjoy the conversations and debates.
It's funny today the numbers of many conservative types have increased and leftoid follower numbers have reduced. Almost like the scales have been recalibrated. Must just be a weird coincidence though. Certainly no journalist will look into it.
The short circuiting of other Twitter alternatives is not surprising. As much as I wanted Gettr or anything else to take off, people aren't trying to sign up for a dozen services doing the same thing.
The problem with the alts is and always has been that they're basically echo chambers. There's very little ability to affect the global conversation. You can't, for instance, comment under some shitlib propagandist's tweet to point out how full of shit they are. Embarrassing the occupational class was always one of the main strengths of Twitter.
The other issue is that people like to argue. Especially the contrarian types drawn to dissident politics. Isolation in alttech platforms just leads to toxic infighting.
I shared over on the Signal group what a friend sent me.
MSNBC said that the reason Musk bought Twitter is because he is South African and supports apartheid and some other nonsense. They keep the hate going anyway they can.

Every time they say "our Democracy" understand that they mean "our Democratic Party". It makes much more sense.

On the question of whether this spells doom for the alt-tech Twitter clones, I expect that most of them are indeed now redundant.
Gab, however, will probably persist. Torba's an ornery cuss.

Yes MSNBC and NBC are the same monster.
